Celestial Palaver
What would a conversation with a deity be like? Let alone a conversation between two of them. Could it even be a fruitful one? Between a god and a human? What could a human possibly say to a god that the divine being did not already know? Let alone have heard a million plus times over. Taking religion completely off the table of course.
This whole inquiry of questions is coming from a perspective of logical deduction. Not spiritual curiosity mind you. Would, or even, could a god be capable of having a conversation with a human? From my own perception, don’t most humans follow the logical assumption that both gods to humans, are like humans to ants? Beings so far beyond human understanding that the mere thought process of truly knowing what a god actually is only unfolds a mess of made up fantasy and unprovable facts. What if gods were not infallible? What makes them a god? Truly. Is it the immortal structure of belief that keeps them alive? Is it the power and command over this reality that makes them what they are? Are, or, were they just humans that put on a good show? Could they be on the ground just like the rest of us? Posing as one of us and living one life after another… what was that song? … Yeah, the one by Joan Osborne. What if their true purpose was to guide those of us through life at specific moments. Giving us nudges to make an untainted choice that would define our lives. Give us a purpose. Or maybe even encourage us not to give up?
Would it be any different than any other conversation any of us had ever had before? Makes you wonder doesn’t it? The whole meaning behind the definition of deity. We know it as a ruler to worship. To give praise and thanks to. But doesn’t it kinda seem a bit too polished? Look at our human history as an example. Thousands of years of worship. Hundreds of gods. Do I need to point out what was done in the name of any of these supreme beings?
What if, bear with me here; what if the definition is backwards? What if the gods, are the ones worshiping us? It would seem counter productive to have humans wage war on one another just to loose the very source of the worship they supposedly need. Gods are supposed to be infallible right? If a human can point out this very basic and elementary observation, what does that say about a supreme intellect that a mere human can not even begin to comprehend? “Mysterious ways” my ass.
So, if a god were sitting across the table from you right at this moment… let’s say for argument sake, in a coffee shop. How would it go? Do you think they would outright come out and say they were a god? Hell no. In today’s day and age? Not a chance. Not even the most devout follower of any religion would truly believe it. Granted, some would, and I personally would not want to hang around that kind of person for very long. Entertainment values aside. A god would most likely be as normal as you would expect them to be. Would you think they would start the conversation? Would they subtly steer it in a meaningful way? Would they talk about sports or any number of mundane topics to gain your interest in them? Do you think they would begin to manipulate you into doing something you would not normally do?
You see, this sort of thing is what is fascinating to me. We see this sort of scenario time and time again in books, movies, and tv. Superior beings that play games with humans. As if being a god is comparable to burning ants on a sidewalk with a magnifying glass. Adolescent and humanistically cruel. Showing a complete lack of supreme intelligence or any perspective understanding about life in this reality we live in. Granted, the literature is varied in all sorts of ways. Gods making bets with one another while using humans as a checkers game board. Sacrifices for favors. Devotion for protection…etc…etc. Kinda sounds like stuff that humans do right?
So, what kind of conversation would you want to have with a god? I don’t know about you, but I would ask what the hell was up with the whole poop shoot being put right next to the pleasure palace/baby maker factory.
…The literature is not wrong you know. Humans are a walking talking joke factory of contradictions. Who am I to point a finger anyway? I would like to think that Einstein had a point in what he said about a god. And also what Bohr said in response. Just a bunch of humans wanting to know to truth and whom believe they know enough, I guess.
Things are they way they are. We choose to ignore, take part, or change that which we can. Everything else will happen without our consent or knowledge of ever happening.
Maybe “deities” work the same way.
