Have you ever fantasized about being a super hero or a super villain? Where would you settle on that spectrum between justice and malice?
(Hopefully a nice villain that doesn’t hurt anybody & not a mean super hero that gets people hurt)
What kind had you dreamed yourself being; if at all? I myself constantly daydreamed about it when I was a kid. Villain, hero, anti-hero, & anti-villain to be specific. What made me curious was that in my daydreams, I always didn’t want people to know I existed. That “stuff”, just miraculously happened without anyone understanding how. The wanted bad guys would end tied up in front of the police station, the drug cartels wound up with no drugs to sell or harvest, giant catastrophes would happen but all the people would end up outside of the danger zone, etc…
This made me wonder. Is it just me, or do superheroes that go out of their way to become public figures, need the attention? Could that be a source for their ‘compulsion to do good’? Or a superior selfish indulgence thing? Also, for some reason almost every self imagined superhero I thought myself to be, controlled time in some way. The weirdest one I had thought up back then, was the superpower that could only control the freshness of processed food in the space time continuum. Thought that one up after my first paying job at Burger King. Back then they threw out TONS of food every day…
That was also when I almost drowned in a pickle vat. Like the foolish kid I was, I thought it a good idea to reach down to the bottom of the vat to scoop up a tray of pickles while balancing on the edge with my waist. Head first I went and got stuck under the pickle juice. To this very day I have a SERIOUS aversion to the taste and smell of anything that is pickled… alas, no super power.
Right, super heroes… Reading comic books and watching cartoons just fueled the flame of this constant obsession with super humans in my youth. The weirder the super power, the more entertaining! Do you think that the MK Ultra off shoots performed by the government ever panned out? Aside from all the illegal human testing and shady experiments. Like in the tv shows X-files & Alphas. Or the many other short lived tv shows like Misfits of Science! …Loved that show.
Have you noticed that the Marvel movies are starting to get a bit bland? It’s been like 5 years now since it picked up steam? It almost seems like they are far too worried about not following a specific formula and less worried about telling a compelling story… The TV show The Boys, derived from the comic, was EPIC! Probably one of the most realistic portrayals of what humans would do if any of us got super powers. Like the creepy anti-Superman origin story movie, Brightburn. That one gave me chills.
So, if you had a choice in being a super-anything; what power would you posses? I got dibs on quantum space manipulation.
